We are Building for Improved Energy Resiliency and Security.
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Oct. 17, 2024 - PRLog -- On 25 September 2024, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded David Boland, Inc. the firm-fixed-price contract for the JSOC Microgrid project at Fort Liberty in North Carolina. The project is planned to be performed within a duration of approximately two and a half years and has a contract value of $42.6M.
The project is part of the Energy Resilience & Conservation Investment Program (ERCIP). The ERCIP is specifically intended to fund projects that save energy and water, reduce DoD's energy costs, improve energy resilience / security, and contribute to mission assurance.
The project will involve construction of an electric microgrid system for emergency power to the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) compound within Fort Liberty, North Carolina. The new microgrid system will be capable of islanding the JSOC compound from the Fort Liberty electrical distribution system, and will fully support the JSOC compound, including all critical loads.
The project includes providing a new two-megawatt diesel generator and expanding the existing generator controls and electrical distribution infrastructure to allow the new generator to be synchronized with four existing generators. The microgrid system will include a master microgrid controller, diesel generation, switchgear, medium-voltage transformers, automatic transfer switches, distribution cables, electrical and communications duct banks, breakers, equipment for communications and controls, a new fuel supply system consisting of three 50,000-gallon diesel fuel storage tanks and fuel distribution piping and controls, a fuel polishing system, and other various utility upgrades.
The new microgrid system will independently support the electrical power needs of the JSOC in the event of a power loss, allowing for unbroken support to the JSOC's 24/7 worldwide operational tempo for up to 14 days of continuous operation.
The JSOC is located at Fort Liberty, North Carolina and is a subordinate, unified command assigned to the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). The JSOC prepares assigned, attached and augmentation forces and, when directed, conducts special operations against threats to protect the Homeland and United States interests abroad.
Fort Liberty, formerly known as Fort Bragg, is located in Cumberland County and Hoke County, North Carolina and is one of the largest military installations in the world. Fort Liberty is the headquarters of the United States Army Special Operations Command (USASOC), which is the largest of the service components that make up the USSOCOM.
