Movie Actress Gong Li as the Art Chairman of the Beijing International Film Festival, the First Such Post in the Festival’s History

“Film is our everlasting dream, and film festival is a harbor for filmmakers. Let people who love movies come together here every year and talk about our love and dreams for movies.” – Gong Li.

Because of her love and original aspiration, Gong Li, after one year, once again joins hands with the Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF), this time as the art chairman of the Festival.

Different from the role as the Jury President of Tiantan Award who leads the selection of the film candidates, the “Art Chairman” mostly plays the role of “special curator” in international film festivals, paying attention to the selected films, and assisting in the invitation and recommendation of excellent films and important guests. This time, Gong Li will use her artistic influence to help discover more excellent films at home and abroad, and extend a sincere invitation to all people who love movies and have dreams.

With a career spanning more than 30 years, Gong Li has been recognized in the world film circle by virtue of her excellent acting skills. She was initially a winning actress, and then she became a judge of awarding films. She was also listed by the United Nations as one of the 16 artists who have influenced human culture and art. At the 11th BJIFF, under the guidance of Gong Li and with a vigorous and professional attitude, the Tiantan Award international jury selected five films from Asia and Europe for winning the ten categories of Tiantan Award. The masses were presented a wonderful audio-visual feast. The Award, once again, caught unprecedented attention from all walks of life and won widespread praise.

“I hope that through the Beijing International Film Festival, people around the world can know more about our Chinese culture, art and Chinese story,” Gong Li said in her enthusiastic speech at the opening ceremony of the 11th BJIFF. Her remarks are still ringing and her deep emotion for the film industry is clearly manifested.

This is the first time that the BJIFF sets up the post of art chairman, and invites Chinese actress Gong Li to take the post. This is a solid step for the Festival to become more professional, authoritative and international. It is also bound to attract more attention at home and abroad, and make more people focus on the BJIFF.
