American Water Charitable Foundation Provides Grant to Support Emergency Response Efforts in Flint, Michigan

The American Water Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization created by American Water, the nation’s largest publicly traded water and wastewater utility company, announced today it is awarding a $50,000 Disaster Relief Grant to the Flint Child Health & Development Fund of the Community Foundation of Greater Flint to support children and families impacted by the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.

The Flint Child Health & Development Fund of the Community Foundation of Greater Flint was founded by Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha to help with the recent drinking water crisis, noting tremendous funding needs to help address the “ongoing and long-term” health effects on particularly younger children. The Fund is intended to supplement state and federal government funds pledged to help Flint.

“As the foundation for the nation’s largest publicly traded water company, the American Water Charitable Foundation is pleased to join others in supporting the people and specifically the children who have been impacted by the water crisis in Flint,” said Darlene Williams, President, American Water Charitable Foundation. “While not in the American Water service area, we understand how critical water is to the lives of people in all communities and we hope this contribution can help in some small way.”

In addition to the Disaster Relief Grant, all active full-time American Water employees and members of its board of directors are eligible to participate in the Foundation’s Volunteer and Matching Gift Programs to a maximum of $1,000 per employee, per year.
