SelectHealth Announces Recipients of the Select 25 Award

SelectHealth is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2012 Select 25 award. The nonprofit health insurance carrier will give $2,500 to each of the 25 winners to assist them in their efforts to improve health and wellness, or to serve populations with special needs.

Winners were selected from all areas of Utah and represented a wide range of services, including after-school exercise activities, housing for low-income families, and educational resources for those with special needs.

“We are continually impressed by people throughout the state who see a need in their community and work to find a solution,” says SelectHealth President and CEO Patricia Richards. “We are proud to support these organizations and help them make a difference in the lives of the people they serve.”

The Select 25 award was originally created to commemorate the 25th anniversary of SelectHealth. The award continues to support programs that share the SelectHealth commitment to community service and health improvement. This year, more than 360 organizations applied for the award.

• Clayton Middle School (Salt Lake City)—Providing after-school, high-adventure activities at little or no cost.
• Comunidades Unidas (Salt Lake City)—Helping immigrants and refugees become healthy, self-sufficient members of the community.
• Foster Grandparent Program of Northern Utah (Ogden)—Providing one-on-one tutoring and guidance to children at a critical time in their lives.
• House of Hope (Salt Lake City)—Providing day care services for families receiving treatment for substance abuse.
• Hurricane City Police Department (Hurricane)—Working with local schools to educate children about bicycle and walking safety.
• Inspire Dance Studio (Clearfield)—Providing a dance group tailored for children with special needs.
• New Roots of Utah (Salt Lake City)—Helping refugees uprooted by crisis to survive and rebuild their lives.
• Iron County School District (Cedar City)—Providing nursing, training, and education services to rural schools.
• Kanab Kids Tennis (Kanab)—Teaching healthy habits, teamwork, and self-confidence through tennis.
• Healthy Happy U (Panguitch)—Offering safe, structured after-school activities to help children learn new skills and healthy habits.
• Lakeridge 4-H After School Program (Orem)—Teaching health and nutrition skills to young people through engaging and exciting programs.
• Ogden Prep Academy (Ogden)—Helping kids explore the joys of fruits and vegetables.
• Polizzi Clinic (Salt Lake City)—Providing mental health and psychiatric services to uninsured and underinsured individuals.
• Recreation and Habilitation Services (RAH) (Provo)—Providing services that promote good health and skill development for individuals with disabilities.
• Rural Housing Development Corporation (Provo)—Helping low-income families build their own homes through sweat equity.
• Salt Lake Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (Salt Lake City)—Providing medical care and collection of forensic evidence following sexual assault.
• Snowbasin Adaptive Sports Education Foundation (Huntsville)—Providing winter activities for individuals with cognitive and physical disabilities.
• South Valley Sanctuary (West Jordan)—Providing shelter and support services for victims of domestic violence.
• The People's Health Clinic (Park City)—Providing medical care and education to uninsured residents of Summit and Wasatch counties.
• Troop 1262 (Salt Lake City)—Providing scouting activities for refugee boys from Burma.
• United Angels Foundation (Provo)—Helping families with special needs children through interaction, education, and resources.
• Urban Indian Center (Salt Lake City)—Providing youth activities that encourage healthy living and a strong cultural identity.
• Utah Council of the Blind (Woods Cross)—Teaching blindness skills to people losing their sight to help them live independently.
• Utah Health and Human Rights (Salt Lake City)—Helping refugee torture survivors heal and rebuild their lives.
• Wayne County Senior Citizen Center (Bicknell)—Providing home-delivered meals to seniors throughout Wayne County.
