-- China Daily’s 21st Century Media and Education successfully hosted the “Youth Pulse: Next Gen Wave” English Communication Workshop on August 15th. Under the theme “Let the World Hear You”, the event gathered youth from 15 countries, including China, the US, Pakistan and Argentina, for an inspiring afternoon of cross-cultural exchange, expert coaching, and insightful dialogue.
The workshop provided a unique platform for young people to connect, share their stories, and gain practical skills to effectively voice their perspectives on the global stage. By replacing abstract notions of foreign countries with personal stories and faces, these interactions built a foundation of genuine connection, transforming the room from a collection of individuals into a collaborative global community.
“The best thing I feel about this workshop is the diversity,” said Hira Ali from Pakistan. “I met people from so many different cultures and countries, all living in this metropolitan city. It’s an excellent opportunity to learn about languages and cultures.”
This convergence of diverse backgrounds also created fertile ground for new ideas and deeper empathy, empowering the next generation of communicators to find their voice.
“Events like this do more than just unite people; they provide a stage for ideas,” said Hu Haoge from China. “It becomes truly special when a venue gathers diverse voices from around the world, allowing you to connect with lives and experiences completely unlike your own — all in a single afternoon.”
The event’s highlight was an inspiring keynote from Youth Pulse’s special guest, Gu Qiubei, an associate professor at Shanghai International Studies University. Drawing from her personal journey from a public speaking competitor to an educator, professor Gu stated that speech is not just a journey of self-discovery but a vital bridge to connect with the world. Its core, she explained, lies in building credibility with sincere stories while moving an audience through a powerful blend of logic and emotion, allowing the world to feel the warmth and vitality of contemporary Chinese culture.
Professor Gu shared her experiences from speech competitions and telling China's stories with an audience of international youth.
The “Youth Pulse” program is dedicated to empowering the communicators of tomorrow. It is built on an unwavering commitment to creating dynamic platforms where young leaders can hone their skills, forge meaningful cross-cultural connections, and deepen their understanding of a complex, interconnected world. This initiative does more than prepare them for future success; it actively builds a global community founded on mutual respect and collaborative progress.
