Saint Paul, MN - Planting People Growing Justice Press is proud to announce its Spring 2026 children’s book collection, a powerful lineup of new releases that celebrate culture, history, identity, and joy. Rooted in the arts and humanities, this collection reflects the press’s commitment to training and publishing emerging Black authors and expanding access to diverse, culturally affirming literature.
At a time when Black authors represent only approximately 6 percent of authors published in the United States, Planting People Growing Justice Press continues to fill a critical gap by amplifying underrepresented voices and ensuring children see themselves reflected in the stories they read.

“Publishing is a powerful act of justice,” said Dr. Artika R. Tyner, Editor and Publisher of Planting People Growing Justice Press. “Through this Spring 2026 collection, we are building a rich tapestry of voices that honor culture, preserve history, and bring joy. These books are not only stories. They are tools for promoting literacy and community building.”
Spring 2026 Titles Include:
- Jaheem’s First Juneteenth by Zephaniah Martin - A joyful introduction to Juneteenth that honors freedom, family traditions, and the importance of remembering history.
- Sing by Lanell Lightfoot - An inspiring debut that celebrates music, courage, and the power of self-expression.
- Kwame Nkrumah: Warrior King by Nancy Loewen and Senchi Ferry Library - A compelling portrait of African leadership that introduces young readers to the legacy of Kwame Nkrumah.
- Rayyan Makes a Daddy-Daughter Date by Rayyan Abdur Razzaq - A heartwarming story that highlights love, connection, and meaningful family moments.
- Cameron’s Garden of Hope by Aamina Muhammad Vela - An inspiring story about resilience, growth, and finding hope through care and connection.
For debut author Lanell Lightfoot, publishing Sing represents both a personal and collective milestone.

“This book is about finding your voice and using it to make a difference,” said Lightfoot. “As a debut author, being published through Planting People Growing Justice Press means my story can inspire children from all backgrounds to embrace who they are and express themselves without fear.”
Books With Purpose
One hundred percent of the proceeds from book sales of the Spring 2026 collection directly support Planting People Growing Justice Leadership Institute, an arts and humanities nonprofit dedicated to developing authors, leading writing workshops, promoting literacy, and expanding access to diverse books for children and families.
“Every book purchased is an investment in literacy, creativity, and opportunity,” added Dr. Tyner. “Together, we are growing a future where stories reflect our shared humanity.”
