Joseph Nelson Jewelry is now open for private appointments in its Irvine office as well as an office in the jewelry district in Downtown Los Angeles. Owners, Mark Crawford and Ishkhan Petrosyan have teamed up to bring an elite jewelry house to Orange County and Los Angeles that can rival the major brands in service and jewelry quality.
Mark has been selling luxury jewelry for the past 21 years. Starting his career in the Baltimore, Washington DC, and Northern Virginia markets. Then moving to the West Coast, Mark has worked for some of the best family-owned jewelers in the United States. Early in Mark’s career, he worked for Smyth Jewelers in Timonium, MD which opened its doors in 1914 and is one of the oldest and most successful family jewelers in the United States. Smyth carries almost every major jewelry brand and the store is the size of a professional American football field. Mark gained extensive experience in sourcing diamonds and color gemstones from ethical suppliers. He also learned to work with both natural and lab-grown diamonds of unparalleled quality. Working for a family jeweler like Smyth, Mark learned how much better customers felt to shop with a true family owned business. It is a more intimate shopping experience. The west coast came calling and Mark then headed to California.
When in California, Mark worked for Nathan Alan Jewelers. A 43-year-old family jeweler, located in Costa Mesa, CA, in South Coast Plaza. South Coast Plaza is the busiest and highest gross profiting mall in the country. Here Mark was competing against the best jewelry brands in the world, such as Harry Winston, Cartier, Van Cleef Arpels, Graff, and others. At Nathan Alan, Mark was able to make connections with some of the world's best fabricators and also continue to build his sourcing resume, working with some of the world's top suppliers of elite diamonds and gems.
Mark’s knowledge is top of the industry. Working against the best brands in the world while working for family jewelers, created an eye for what quality jewelry should be, expert craftsmanship, and exquisite center stones. What service level all customers deserve. Working for family jewelers opened the door for Mark to build relationships with the top vendors in the world who sell to the major brands, loose diamonds, the most rare color gemstones, and jewelry pieces made at the highest level.
In 2024 Mark partnered with Ishkhan Petrosyan, a world-class jewelry craftsman who has made jewelry pieces for some of those same major brands. Ishkhan has over 25 years of jewelry design and fabrication experience. He has done service for the likes of Tiffany and Co. and other major brands in the US. He is a second-generation jeweler who started working on jewelry at the age of 22. Over the years he has developed one of the best eyes for beautifully crafted jewelry on the market today. Some of the pieces he’s made have won many awards at JCK (Jewelers Circular Keystone), which is the largest jewelry show in the world today. Also on the red carpets, many favorite A-list celebrities have worn pieces that were designed and made by Ishkhan and his team. The company is now bringing up the third generation with Ishkhan's Nephew, Zavan, to continue the dedication and legacy of building and crafting jewelry at a master craftsman level but keeping it in the family.
