Joseph Shanley Joins CIM Group as Managing Director in Continued Expansion of Firm’s Credit Platform

CIM Group announced today that Joseph Shanley, a highly accomplished leader in real estate finance and investments, has joined as Managing Director in an ongoing expansion of the firm’s credit platform.

At CIM Group, Mr. Shanley will serve as a senior member of the Investments team, focusing on loan origination and helping tailor portfolio strategy for credit investments in the office sector, while supporting the firm’s broader efforts to deliver tailored credit solutions.

Mr. Shanley brings more than two decades of experience in property acquisitions, structured finance, and ground lease investments. In 2020, he launched Haven Capital, a dedicated private ground lease investment platform formed by Ares Management and Regis Group, PLC specializing in the origination of bespoke ground lease solutions.

Prior to Haven, Mr. Shanley spent nine years at SL Green Realty Corp., where he served as Vice President in the Investments group. During his tenure, he was responsible for sourcing and executing direct equity investments and structured finance opportunities across office, retail, and multifamily assets in the New York region. He also led asset dispositions and high-level asset management initiatives while cultivating and maintaining strategic relationships with partners, borrowers, lenders, and the brokerage community. Mr. Shanley successfully closed more than 60 transactions totaling over $32 billion in aggregate gross value at SL Green, demonstrating a strong track record of delivering results across diverse asset classes.

“CIM Group has built a strong reputation for its disciplined approach to credit investing and deep expertise in commercial real estate,” said Mr. Shanley. “I look forward to working alongside a skilled team that values innovation in real estate finance and contributing to the continued growth of CIM’s credit business.”

Through its CIM Real Estate Debt Solutions business, CIM Group applies its broad experience as an owner, operator, and developer of high quality commercial real estate to its lending strategy and believes this helps differentiate the firm from many other debt providers. Through mortgage and mezzanine loans, CIM Group provides bridge and construction financing to owners and developers of commercial real estate in major markets across the United States and works with borrowers to offer an array of lending solutions.

“Joseph is one of the most accomplished office lending specialists in the industry with a longstanding track record of sourcing and executing complex transactions across market cycles,” said Matt Borstein, Managing Director and Co-Head of Credit at CIM Group. “Having worked with him in the past, I have seen firsthand the caliber of his work and the strength of his partnerships. His ability to structure creative real estate solutions will be invaluable as we continue to expand our office credit strategy.”

“Joseph’s reputation as a trusted partner and innovative dealmaker is well-earned and we are excited to collaborate with him on future credit opportunities,” said Daniel Ottensoser, Managing Director and Co-Head of Credit at CIM Group. “His deep understanding of the office sector, combined with a solution-oriented mindset and ability to navigate complex deals, makes him an exceptional addition to our team.”
