hyve Aims to Tackle Several Societal and Economic Issues, Ranging From Sustainability by Reducing Package Waste, to Logistics and Theft
hyve, the smart home delivery pod that keeps deliveries secure, launched today at CES 2025. The company launches with a dual-purpose of empowering consumers to opt-in for waste-free packaging and for retailers to cut-down on waste while preventing theft. In the last year, porch pirates have stolen more than $12 billion in packages, and the complete lack of security is a critical problem with home delivery.
As the first branded smart lockbox, hyve completely reimagines the delivery experience while reducing waste. In 2021, Amazon generated approximately 709 million pounds of plastic packaging, and while many online retailers want to reduce shipping waste, packages are more susceptible to theft without the outer box. That’s where hyve comes in, giving consumers peace of mind that their deliveries are safe.
“Since the recent boom of online delivery, package theft has become a widespread issue, which has not only damaged consumers’ relationships with retailers, but has caused a heavy reliance on plastic and packaging waste,” said Melissa Kieling, CEO and Co-Founder of hyve. “hyve not only offers consumers peace of mind and security for their packages but also allows online retailers the opportunity to adopt more sustainable practices and reduce their carbon footprint exponentially.”
hyve is co-founded by Melissa Kieling, the founder of PackIt, named one of Inc.’s fastest-growing privately held companies, a $12M business which makes foldable, freezable bags to keep food and beverages cold. Kieling was a victim of porch pirates, realizing she couldn’t even ship a package to her son without worrying it might be stolen. The pair decided to do something about it, so Brennan Naylor left his job in private equity to co-found hyve.
Security Beginning Outside The Home
The sleek, weather-proof delivery pod can be secured to the front of a home or apartment entryway with a quarter-inch carbon fiber cable tether. The hyve pod is equipped with an accelerometer that will sound a shrieking alarm if the device is tampered with and immediately send an alert to the owner and neighbors who have opted-in to be a part of the hyve community. The app also has connectivity options to your existing smart home security systems.
“hyve was born out of a simple desire to protect what matters,” said Brennan Naylor, Co-Founder and COO. “Our mission is to eliminate the fear of package theft and damage while making the delivery experience seamless, secure, and sustainable for all consumers. hyve is the future of home deliveries.”
Seamless Delivery Benefitting Both Consumers and Retailers
The user can connect their device via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connection to the hyve Security app. Once the device is active, retailers, delivery services, friends, and family can open the pod to drop off or retrieve a package using specific custom codes within the app. The hyve owner receives an app notification every time a code is used, letting them know which package has been safely delivered and by who. hyve is equipped with a photo window where drivers can snap a picture of the package deposited safely in the hyve, providing retailers with an easy solution for record tracking and consumers with the peace of mind the hyve is hard at work. The hyve pod also benefits the returns ecosystem, with the ability to create updates to the product software and partner with retailers to ping nearby delivery trucks that a return is waiting to be retrieved in a hyve within a certain distance.
Sustainable Benefits for Shoppers and Businesses
While preventing package theft is a cornerstone of hyve's message, the true impact lies in the brand’s ability to empower retailers to move away from excessive boxes and outer packaging. By partnering with retailers and distributors, hyve aims to revolutionize distribution by using less materials. The pod itself is also battery and solar-powered, with an 18-month battery life and no charging required.
hyve will be showcased during the Consumer Electronics Show in Eureka Park Booth #60448 and will be available for consumer purchase in June 2025 for $299. To learn more about hyve, please visit our website.
