Air Combat Command Pilots Onebrief to Transform Mission Command, Control, and Communication

This week, Air Combat Command (ACC) awarded Onebrief, the leading software platform for operational planning, a contract to provide the foundation of the Agile Battle Lab (ABL) Enabling Mission Command, Control, and Communication (EMC3) Project. The ABL’s EMC3 Project is set to build a software collaboration system-of-systems that “allows commanders to maintain oversight over a disaggregated base cluster; collaborate with superiors, peers, and subordinates over live data; and execute mission type orders when disconnected.”

Air Combat Command’s existing collaborative software stack will now be augmented with Onebrief’s specialized tools for mission planning and mission execution. Beginning January 2025, the platform will be rolled out to all ACC staff directorates, introducing them to the technology and simultaneously benchmarking the efficiencies gained. Onebrief will support their current ecosystem of tools at all levels, from staff agencies to tactical unit-level members.

According to Laura Guay, AI Technical Director, ACC CDAO, "Onebrief's platform is designed to accelerate the Department of the Air Force's key priorities, enabling faster decision-making, enhancing collaboration, and streamlining planning processes.”

As a part of the contract, the software will empower Airmen and Guardians to adapt swiftly to evolving threats, particularly in addressing the pacing challenge. By providing a unified, real-time collaboration environment, Onebrief supports modernization efforts and improves mission command, control, and communication capabilities critical for today's complex operational landscape.

“Tailoring Onebrief’s capabilities for ACC over this next year is an exciting opportunity, due to their unique mission,” said Grant Demaree, Chief Executive Officer at Onebrief. “Our platform’s core features were designed for these workflows and will be further accelerated with AI innovation. This program will set a powerful foundation for the future of military staffs.”

The EMC3 Project aligns with Onebrief’s goals of mitigating inefficiencies experienced within a collaborative environment and connecting distributed teams. Unlike other solutions, the Onebrief platform is designed to synchronize live data across multiple products, an essential functionality for modern military operations. Moving forward, outputs, such as briefings, slides, sync matrices, maps, or written orders will be automatically updated across ACC. Historically this work has been a resource-intensive process.

“Planners at all echelons during contingency operations from tactical, operational, and strategic are increasingly using the same sets of digital tools for managing their day-to-day workflows. However, while they are building these mission critical products within the same classified enclaves, the requisite data sets are in disparate ‘silos’ such as Sharepoints, servers, chat rooms, and slides. This project seeks to connect the three layers of planning to ensure the relevant data – regardless of format – is available to all requesting users, from a bandwidth constrained island in the Pacific all the way back to the Pentagon,” noted Major Austin Hairfield, ABL Director of Operations.

Interoperability across the stack is made possible with an open API. Onebrief’s API accepts data in common DoD formats which allows users to integrate external data or leverage the data from within Onebrief in external tools. The API can be deployed on unclassified and classified networks, such as SIPR, NIPR, and JWICS.

The pilot will include a comprehensive onboarding program led by Onebrief. Throughout 2025, the combined government and commercial teams will embed alongside users in their work centers to discuss challenges, outline needs, and then migrate to a more efficient, customizable solution within Onebrief.
