In recognition, the Foundation provided a combined total of $25,000 in One Water Street grants to five of American Water’s longstanding Camden community partners: Camden Special Services District, Cathedral Kitchen, the Center for Aquatic Sciences, Hopeworks and Lucy Outreach.
Since 2018, American Water, New Jersey American Water and the American Water Charitable Foundation have collectively contributed over $4.5 million and nearly 3,000 employee volunteer hours to support the Camden community and its organizations.
“American Water is proud to call Camden home. We have long believed in the importance of being a good corporate citizen, neighbor and steward of the environment,” said M. Susan Hardwick, President and Chief Executive Officer, American Water. “We are deeply committed to supporting the city and have developed meaningful relationships with residents, elected officials and Camden-based nonprofit organizations.”
Additionally, American Water formed a Camden Community Investment Committee that includes representatives throughout the city. The committee meets biannually and allows stakeholders the opportunity to provide feedback and guidance to American Water’s community outreach program and for American Water to share recent and upcoming outreach and education efforts.
New Jersey American Water, serving Cramer Hill and East Camden sections of Camden, also introduced a Workforce Development Program to connect young adults with education, exposure and transformative career opportunities within the water and wastewater industry.
“I am grateful for American Water’s and the American Water Charitable Foundation’s steadfast commitment to our community organizations and residents,” said Mayor Victor Carstarphen, City of Camden. "The City of Camden was proud to welcome the team to the waterfront in 2018 and even more proud of how they have engrained their workforce within the fabric of our community."
The Foundation’s One Water Street Grant Program supports high-impact projects and initiatives that benefit the city and residents, focusing on community sustainability, education, environmental initiatives, inclusion, diversity and equity, health and wellness, and public safety.
“The American Water Charitable Foundation is delighted to provide ongoing support to continue the growth of our local partners,” said Carrie Williams, President, American Water Charitable Foundation. “These outstanding organizations make a tremendous impact each and every day in the City of Camden, and we are honored to invest our time and resources in helping each of them achieve their mission.”
