UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESS Newswire / August 19, 2025 / Marquis Who's Who honors Dale Bristow for success in vocational services. Celebrating more than two decades of service in the vocational rehabilitation field, his work with Single Handed Consulting Inc. in Rochester, Washington, helps injured workers reenter the workforce while adjusting to life-altering physical challenges.

The Career Impact of a Chronic Condition
Mr. Bristow began his career in 1999 as a Department of Labor and Industries clerk. Eventually, he worked his way up to a claims manager role. Before entering the private sector, he took on additional responsibilities, trained claims units and supported case management. The shift into vocational rehabilitation came after developing bilateral lateral epicondylitis, also known as tennis elbow. The condition made the physical demands of claims management unsustainable.
In 2012, Mr. Bristow earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from The Evergreen State College. Mr. Bristow joined Strategic Consulting Services as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor three months later. He interned with Strategic Consulting and earned his Certificate of Disability Management Specialists (CDMS). Two years later, Mr. Bristow joined Single Handed Consulting Inc. during its first year of operation.
A Shift Toward Worker-Centered Support
In recent years, Mr. Bristow has noticed shifts in the field based on the policy changes imposed by the Department of Labor and Industries. "In the past, it used to be very much ‘find the person employable and move on,' going to the next claim, which was the main focus of the department at that time," he says. "It has since switched." What has emerged is a more worker-centric approach, which has allowed him to take on a more counselor-focused role.
Mr. Bristow's work at Single Handed Consulting reflects that model. Rather than merely assessing work readiness, he builds relationships, establishes realistic goals and helps workers find meaningful employment paths. "It's not so much the catch-and-release style that it used to be. Now we're focused on counseling with the workers," he says.
Achievement Through Lifelong Learning
A career in vocational rehabilitation wasn't Mr. Bristow's initial goal. However, he has built on each opportunity, gained knowledge and advanced in responsibility. One of his most significant achievements was earning vocational counseling credentials, which involved passing several rigorous tests and maintaining continuing education credits every five years.
Mr. Bristow attributes his success to his willingness to adapt and learn. As a self-described generalist, he can learn as he goes and step into whatever role is needed. This ability has helped him thrive in a field that demands technical knowledge and interpersonal skills.
Dedication to Service and Family
Outside of his professional life, Mr. Bristow is a proud father and grandfather. He enjoys hiking, traveling, reading and building large Lego structures. He previously volunteered with Wolf Haven International and hopes to return to volunteering with future conservation efforts. Despite the demands of his work, he remains committed to giving back in both personal and professional settings.
In the next five to seven years, Mr. Bristow expects to remain in the same line of work. He enjoys the culture and mission of Single Handed Consulting. As a result, he's open to taking on new challenges as they arise. Rather than aiming for titles and recognition, he focuses on meaningful work and helping others succeed.
