The following information is furnished pursuant to this Item 12,

On October 16, 2003, Brookline Bancorp, Inc. (the "Company") announced
its earnings for the third quarter of 2003, stock awards under the Company's
2003 Recognition and Retention Plan and declaration of a regular quarterly
dividend of $0.085 per share. A copy of the press release dated October 16, 2003
is attached as Exhibit 99.1 to this report.
