Her leadership continues to deepen the Foundation's impact in strengthening the future of Washtenaw County.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Dec. 1, 2025 - PRLog -- The Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation (AAACF) is proud to celebrate its President and CEO, Rev. Dr. Shannon Polk, D.Min., J.D., who has been recognized by Crain's Detroit Business earlier this year as one of its 2025 Notable Leaders in Philanthropy. This prestigious recognition celebrates philanthropic leaders who drive meaningful impact through innovation, equity-focused leadership, and community partnership.

Dr. Polk joined AAACF in 2020, stepping into her role during the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Her vision, leadership, and deep commitment to equitable systems, community engagement, and transformational giving inspire the mission of the AAACF. A respected voice in Michigan philanthropy, Dr. Polk has spent her career advancing racial equity, family well-being, and community opportunities. Before joining AAACF, she was the Executive Director of The Witness Foundation, working to develop the next generation of civil rights leaders. Previous roles included influencing grantmaking strategies at the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, Executive Director of the Michigan Breastfeeding Network, and consulting for the Bank of America's Neighborhood Builders Program and the Council of Michigan Foundations. Her combined background in ministry and law allows her to build bridges, elevate community voice, and bring clarity and compassion to complex issues.

In celebration of her recognition, Erycka Hunter, CEO at the Rhonda Walker Foundation and longtime colleague, shared:

"So proud of my fellow Flintstone, Dr. Shannon Polk, President & CEO of the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation! I've watched her lead with purpose and heart since her early days at the Mott Foundation, always lifting up Michigan communities. Seeing her honored as a Leader in Philanthropy at the Crain's Detroit Business Philanthropy Summit was such a full-circle moment. She's the real deal—brilliant, grounded, and doing the work that truly matters."

Her leadership has helped expand AAACF's work in equitable economic opportunity, community engagement, and collective impact, ensuring philanthropy in Washtenaw County is both responsive and forward-looking.

"I am deeply honored to be named a 2025 Notable Leader in Philanthropy," said Rev. Dr. Shannon Polk. "It is a privilege to work with and serve the people of Washtenaw County, and I am grateful to our partners, donors, and community members who make this work possible. Together, we can continue building a community where generosity shapes a brighter future for all."
