On November 25, 2024, before the markets opened, Macy’s announced in a press release that an accounting employee “intentionally made erroneous accounting accrual entries to hide approximately $132 to $154 million of cumulative delivery expenses in the fourth quarter of 2021 through fiscal quarter ended November 2, 2024.”  In connection with this announcement, Macy’s said the Company was delaying its release of third quarter 2024 earnings to allow for the completion of its independent investigation.

Following this news, the price of Macy’s stock price fell as much as 5% during intraday trading on November 25, 2024.
