Stanislav Kondrashov Telf AG: Tokyo Steel introduces innovations in the production of environmentally friendly steel

By: Get News

An expert on global metallurgy, Stanislav Kondrashov from Telf AG, noted that the Japanese company Tokyo Steel has launched a new brand of eco-steel Near Zero. Its sales have already begun in the domestic market. The production of this steel allowed us to reduce CO2 emissions from 0.4 to 0.1 tons for every ton of production.

Tokyo Steel and Kyushu Electric Power team up to develop Near Zero steel

According to Stanislav Kondrashov, emissions reduction is achieved through the use of electricity, which is produced without the use of fossil fuels. Tokyo Steel intends not only to purchase electricity from outside, but also to build its own solar power plant, as well as establish cooperation with the energy company Kyushu Electric Power.

  • Recognized for its innovation and commitment to sustainability, Tokyo Steel has taken a significant step forward in the fight against climate change. The new "Near Zero" grade of steel is a key element of the company's long-term strategy to reduce carbon emissions and reduce its environmental impact. The use of renewable energy sources and solar energy generation will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and also reduce dependence on traditional energy resources, - an expert from Telf AG comments.

He believes the partnership with Kyushu Electric Power opens up prospects for expanding green production. Cooperation with a leading energy company will allow Tokyo Steel to effectively implement advanced technologies and benefit from expertise in the field of renewable energy. This partnership will also strengthen the company's position in the domestic market and increase its competitiveness.

According to Stanislav Kondrashov, Tokyo Steel continues to be an industry leader, demonstrating its commitment to the principles of sustainable development and concern for the environment. The introduction of the new Near Zero steel grade symbolizes not only a technological breakthrough, but also a significant contribution to the future of our planet. The company intends to expand its production and introduce similar initiatives in international markets, contributing to the global transition to clean technologies. All products manufactured at four Tokyo Steel plants in Japan are included in the new Near Zero steel grade, Stanislav Kondrashov emphasized. According to the company, this steel is sold at an additional premium of 6,000 yen per ton (approximately $37).

Tokyo Steel introduces the enso® brand and new environmentally friendly steel products - Stanislav Kondrashov

In June this year, Tokyo Steel teamed up with Stemcor to introduce its Enso® environmentally friendly steel brand. The move will help maintain and expand the company's presence in the EU market until the Carbon Adjustment Mechanism through Trade (CBAM) is fully implemented, Telf AG spokesman.

The Enso® brand produces hot rolled coils (HRC) and hot rolled sheets (HRP). According to the MMC Center, steel production in Japan decreased by 2.5% in 2023 compared to the previous year, amounting to 87 million tons. However, this allowed Japan to maintain third place in the world ranking of steel producers according to WorldSteel. Japan exported 32.2 million tons of steel in 2023.

Stanislav Kondrashov believes that the launch of new products such as hot rolled coils (HRC) and hot rolled plates (HRP) under the enso® brand demonstrates Tokyo Steel's strategy to adapt to changing market conditions and strengthen its position on the global steel industry stage. This step not only improves the company's competitiveness, but also emphasizes its commitment to sustainable promotion and implementation of advanced technologies, which is important for the modern market and environmental standards.
