Pierre Osterrath Appointed Chief Country Officer for Societe Generale Canada

Societe Generale announces the appointment of Pierre Osterrath as Chief Country Officer for Societe Generale Canada, effective June 17.

Pierre Osterrath will replace Francis Repka, who is retiring from Societe Generale after a nearly 40-year career in banking. Mr. Osterrath, currently Chief Risk Officer for Societe Generale Americas, will relocate to Montreal and report to Stephane About, CEO, Societe Generale Americas.

As Chief Country Officer for Canada, Mr. Osterrath will oversee the overall strategic approach for Societe Generale Canada to develop the business and support Canadian clients as well as global Societe Generale clients conducting business in Canada.

Mr. Osterrath’s replacement as Chief Risk Officer for Societe Generale Americas is Suhas Kulkarni who joins from Standard Chartered Bank and will serve as an advisor to Mr. Osterrath until taking over as Chief Risk Officer Americas on April 25.

Biographies

Pierre Osterrath has been acting as Chief Risk Officer for Societe Generale Americas, based in New York since 2016. In this capacity, he is responsible for the oversight of the risk and compliance functions for Societe Generale activities in the US, Canada, and Latin America. After having worked for a Canadian financial institution, Pierre joined Societe Generale in New York in 1999, first as a Credit Risk Officer and then as the Head of the Credit Portfolio Management Team for the Americas. In 2008, Pierre moved to Paris Head Office to ultimately assume the role of Co-Head of Credit Risk for the Investment Banking Division before becoming Chief Operating Officer for the Bank’s Global Finance and Advisory activities in 2013. He returned to New York in 2015 as Deputy Head Of Global Finance and Advisory for the Americas. Pierre is a graduate of HEC Montreal (MBA) and University of Montreal (LLB).

Suhas Kulkarni joins Societe Generale from Standard Chartered Bank where he was the Regional Chief Risk Officer, Europe & Americas, and the Chief Risk Officer, Americas, a position he has held since 2017. Suhas started his career at Hewlett Packard Enterprise India in 1988 and moved to ABN Amro Bank in India as Senior Credit Analyst in 1994. He joined Standard Chartered in 2001 as the Head of Credit for South India. In 2002, he relocated to Singapore as the Regional Head of Asia, Global Markets and Institutions Risk Management. After working on Basel II strategy and then as the Regional Credit Officer, Private Bank at Standard Chartered, Suhas moved to the UAE Branch of Barclays Bank in 2008 as the Corporate Credit Director for Emerging Markets. He returned to Standard Chartered in 2010 as the Head of Traded Credit Risk for the Middle East and Africa before becoming the Chief Risk Officer and Chief Credit Officer for the Americas in 2014.
